Deepak has extensive experience in advising agrifood companies on leveraging Deep Tech, AI, and digitization to achieve growth by building new ventures. He led McKinsey’s agriculture practice and worked with Oceania Consulting. As the co-founder of Agtech startup Techgronomy, he focuses on precision agriculture. He now advises startups on accelerating their GTM strategies and refining product offerings. Beyond agriculture, Deepak is passionate about food systems, biodiversity, and energy transition.
Deepak currently works as an Expert Associate Partner at McKinsey, demonstrating his expertise and commitment to sustainable agriculture through undertaking the role of leader of McKinsey Agriculture & Food Practice in Southeast Asia. He helps clients looking to capture value from growing sustainability trends and define new opportunities and disruptive operating models.
From 2004 to 2006, he owned his own business – Valrio Enterprise. He developed marketing strategies that improved sales by 50% in the first 3 months and helped volume turnover increase by 70% within the subsequent 6 months.
From 2009 to 2011, he was a Senior Consultant in strategy at PwC. During this time, he worked across SEA within the PwC network and served the Government, Agri, Aviation, and Energy sectors with role sector mapping, portfolio analysis, and procurement optimization.
From 2016 to 2019, he was a Managing Partner at Oceania Consulting Group. He assisted clients along the entire green commodity value chain which includes Agribusiness, Forestry, Consumer Goods, Renewable Resources, and Logistics & Supply Chain. The area of advice covers commercial and technical aspects with a heavy focus on innovation and the introduction of new technologies to improve productivity.
From 2019 to 2021, he founded AgTech startup Techgronomy focussed on combining infield data with larger weather data enabling smarter farming decisions. The firm combines hardware from proven European technology and developing SEA-specific crop algorithms.
Deepak holds a B.Eng Aerospace (Honours), Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical/Space Engineering at RMIT. He graduated Bukit Bintang Boys School.
