Long considered a niche energy source, geothermal is gaining renewed interest in Asia—particularly as Indonesia is home to 40% of the world’s geothermal reserves. Advancements in Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) and deep drilling are expanding feasibility beyond traditional hotspots like Indonesia and the Philippines. Yet high upfront costs (70–90% CAPEX in drilling) remain a major hurdle. We are exploring whether innovations such as AI-driven subsurface mapping, plasma drilling, and supercritical water extraction could change the cost curve and unlock broader geothermal deployment across Asia.
